Nan, Thailand distant mountains and indigenous communities

Located in the easternmost part of northern Thailand, in its eponymous river valley, Nan is a charming little town with a unique historic center.

Surrounded by the magnificent misty mountains of Doipuka National Park on the edge of Laos, Nan is home to many ancient temples and teak wooden houses that are still enjoyed by few foreign tourists. Traditional slow lifestyle of people in northern Thailand.

The city is the capital of the state of the same name, with alpine hill tribe villages, abundant waterfalls and more than seven national parks.

Forty years ago, Nan was considered a wild part of northern Thailand. Travel was sometimes banned due to its location in the middle of the Thai army and its Communist battle zone. Today, Nan is becoming more and more famous among brave backpackers. These are ancient tail-style temples where beautiful murals, lush mountains and indigenous communities are beginning to attract Thai and foreign tourists.

Fortunately, the local government seems to have learned from the overdevelopment of other tourist destinations in Thailand, and Nan (for now) retains its identity as a slow, charming, charming and quiet town.
